Is It Fair To Use A Cross Bow During Archery Hunting Season?

Well, the archery hunting equipment argument continues! For years, hardcore archery hunters have been against allowing the much more accurate crossbow hunters to hunt during their seasons. Now, The Pennsylvania Game Commission may decide to make the choice for them!

According to the Daily Item, The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seriously considering legalizing the use of crossbows during archery season!

Some hunters believe that this decision by the PGC does not have the hunter in mind. Instead, they are trying to create a bigger profit for the equipment manufacturers.

Also, the feeling amongst the Archery Hunting communality is that bow hunting, compared to crossbow hunting is a skill that takes a lot of work and practice. They believe that is unfair to allow crossbows into their seasons, because they are much more accurate and take a lot less skill.

No argument. There are so few pushing for it that it shouldnt even be mentioned. About 3 or 4 of the same guys crying on every message board for an easier way into archery season. At Pa game commission meetings NOT ONE hunter has stood up asking for legalization! NOT ONE. Yet there HAS been contact with the game commission on the idea by a MANUFACTURER!! This was actually stated by one of our board of commissioners. He said no hunters that he knows of has asked the board of commissioners, yet they were approached by a man with dollar signs in his eyes.

NO TO THE LAZY MANS CRUTCH AND POACHER DREAM TOOL!

I live in BC canada, I’m a bow hunter i shoot a compound bow. Crossbows are allowed during the archery season here. With the new compound bows with 80% let off shooting a bow or a crossbow there really isnt much difference. Don’t get me wrong I think archery season should be only bows. but there are exceptions, some guys i know arent capable of pulling a bow back due to medical conditions, so a crossbow is their only option. And really lets face it you still have to get to a close distance with a crossbow as you do with a compound or traditional bow. There is talk here that a special license is going to be needed to hunt during the archery season. where you would have to take a course and pass a shooting test to get the license.

NO NO NO and did I say NO I should have said HELL NO.
The only way this should be allowed is if it has it’s own season, like the last 2 weeks of winter bow. (Make them put in there time like the rest of us). There is a major difference between crossbow and compound bows, less movement to shoot, greater distances, it is like shooting an arrow launcher or a rifle that shoot arrows.
If this is going to happen it should be late in the season, and should be like 6 day firearm season, buck only, and special permits required.
HEY Dave handicap hunters can get permits now to use a cross bow so it won’t change anything for them.
Contact fish and wildlife tell them how you feel, write your reps. and tell them, and when you talk to them also tell them you don’t want the ammunition act. FLING EM STRIGHT
